Abstract: In this talk, the speaker would like to discuss our recent work on spin-current generation from rotational motions of rigid and elastic bodies. In the rigidly rotating body with an external magnetic field, the spin-orbit interaction (SOI) is modulated by the mechanical motion. The augmented SOI is responsible for the spin-current generation from the mechanical rotation. In the presence of the surface acoustic wave (SAW), the elastically driven rotational motion couples to electron spins and the spin current is created parallel to the gradient of the mechanical rotation. Dependence of the spin diffusion length, amplitude and frequency of the SAW on the spin current will be discussed.
